Gender Based Violence is an act of violence and violation of basic human rights directed against men and women but it affects women and girls disproportionately. These acts of violence include but not limited to: Domestic Violence, Sexual Violence & Harassment and Institutionalised Violence. Christians are not excluded from being perpetrators or victims of these evil acts. While It is very common for perpetrators to manipulate the scriptures to justify their inhumane actions, victims are largely not heard, protected or supported by the church. As a Church leader what can you do differently in your ministry? ✅1️⃣ Speak-Up & Expose Evil Acts ❣“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” - Proverbs 31:8-9 ❣"Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them" - Ephesians 5:11 ✅ 2️⃣Employ Professionals ❣“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths” Proverbs 3:5-6 📌 If gender based violence is not within your professional core competence, employ the services of professionals in the field to provide training, advocacy, policy consultation and implementation for the leaders and congregants in your ministry 📌 Implement a zero tolerance policy against gender based violence 📌 Appoint trained and qualified professionals as Safeguarding officers 📌 Publish helpline and emergency contact details of local and national domestic violence and sexual violence intervention services on your websites and other social media platforms ✅ 3️⃣Preach the Gospel in Truth ❣''Make every effort to present yourself approved to God, an unashamed workman who accurately handles the word of truth'' - 2 Timothy 2:15 📌When preaching about marriages, submission and divorce, preach the full content of the scriptures. ✅4️⃣ Seek Justice for Victims ❣''Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause'' - Isaiah 1:17 ❣"Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent, both are detestable to the LORD" - Proverbs 17:15 ✅ 5️⃣Be an agent of change #notinmychurch ❣“So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is a sin” - James 4:17 My name is Feyisitan.
